Collection of material related to New York City markets, primarily meat markets, ca. 1817 - ca. 1878. The collection includes manuscript notes and essays by De Voe, as well as related maps, clippings, and printed ephemera. It contains receipts, clippings, tickets, handbills addressed to butchers, (some bilingual in English and German), posters, and trade cards with pictures of the new Washington Market, as well as De Voe's butcher's licenses and a copy of the 1869 auction catalogue for the sale of stalls for 1870 at the Eighteenth Ward market. Some handbills describe prize animals, including one printed in black and gold.
